Tesco has unveiled a series of targets for 2025 to improve the amount of healthy food and plant-based products that it stocks.
By 2025 it aims to:
- Have 65% of total overall sales to be made up of healthy food (increasing from the current level of 58%). The retailer will use the government’s nutrient profiling model to define what constitutes as ‘healthy food’. More information can be found here – https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/the-nutrient-profiling-model
- Grow sales of plant-based meat alternatives by 300%
- Increase the number of prepared meals that contain at least one portion of fruit or veg to 66% (currently 50%)
- Tesco has also stated that it will change “promotions and pricing to remove barriers to buying healthy food”, but details are vague
Progress will be tracked annually by Tesco.
